Summer is making a comeback
The temperature this morning was somewhere in the 50s, but when I went to class just before 2, it was in the mid 80s. Welcome back, old friend. The last 4 weeks of rain and clouds made me miss you.

Goodness!
One of the advantages (in one aspect) of having an on-campus, part time job is that you never work over, say.. 25-30 hours a week. Well, for the first time -- in my life, really -- I worked a full 40 hour week. And after doing so (to be honest, after like the second goddamned day) I completely understood why people don't like working 40 hour weeks. I had the routine of go to work -> come home -> shower -> sleep -> wake up -> repeat. Left very little free time to do anything.
Buuutt... now that that's over (and classes are starting up), I won't have to go through that ordeal until I graduate and have a real, proper job. At least when I start a career, those 40 hour weeks will actually be worthwhile, since I won't be making a pitiful 8.40 an hour (yay minimum wage!)

I can't believe I missed this game.
My god, I thought we were gonna be crushed by Columbus. Damn you, work, for making me miss this one

You know...
There's only one thing better than house sitting, and that's house sitting for someone that's rich. Just in the livingroom there's a 52" HDTV, all the consoles and many games for them, and a 7.1 surround sound system.
Man, I can't wait until I'm out of college and have a real job so I can live like this.

Finally, stable internet!
I cannot stress enough just how much I was missing real internet. While useful, tethering only goes so far -- the speeds were only 1-2mbit and Verizon's "unlimited" data package is really only like 5gb. Can't really do any torrenting/streaming video (atdhe is a godsend) on it...
But yay, back to Comcast's shittiness. I sure do love living in a tiny college town whose only options are Comcast and (very terrible) AT&T dsl!

Smartphone get!
Just picked up a Droid off craigslist and using it for internet. It's amazing how far phones have come in such a short time; this thing is like a super computer compared to my last phone (Samsung Rogue). I've already installed a plethora of apps, customized it with Launcherpro, rooted it, overclocked it, and did whatever else us cool kids with Android phones do. One sweet thing I've done is installed SetCPU, and set it up so when the screen is turned off, e.g. when the phone is locked/in my pocket, it underclocks the processor. It saves a ton on battery life
Hopefully now I'll be able to post more and check all the other blogs out more often.

Short hiatus
Just went back to college/moved into an apartment, and we don't have internet yet. Actually, I don't know when we're supposed to have internet, as the roommate is supposed to take care of that.
Oh well.
Oh well.

Obligatory post about Digg
I had been a member of Digg for over 4 years, I think. Over that time, I saw some pretty good evolutions in the way the site was designed and ran. Version 3, the one that was just given the boot, was deemed more or less perfect by anyone and everyone you would have asked.
But! We all know where this story is going. Version 4 was rolled out, and to keep my opinion of it as short and as clean as possible, I'll just say that it was terrible. Glitches everywhere, core features taken out, and the front page of news was a glorified RSS feed. Stories on the front page didn't even get there by way of being dugg, it seemed like they got there because they paid their way there. The best part is how, seemingly, the entire Digg user base hated the new design. Floods of discontent in the comments pages as far as the eye could see.
Cue Reddit, who pretty much saw this coming from a mile away. Not only did they welcome us Digg refugees with open arms, they kindly showed us the fabled Redditquette and how to stylize the page (which seems like a majority of people there do). Shortly afterwards, a collaboration by the Digg and Reddit users saw the front page (and most of the upcoming news) being nothing but links to Reddit stories. Oh internet revolts, you are so amusing...
Seems like the backlash is working, as a tweet from Kevin Rose himself tells that features from Version 3 are coming back. Let's hope that it's not too late for Rose to save Digg...

Scott Pilgrim beat 'em up
If you're a fan of 1. Scott Pilgrim, 2. Beat 'em ups, or 3. All of the above, then I highly suggest it. It's got everything: massive hordes of bad guys to beat up, extra modes like survival and boss rush, RPG level up elements, and stats you can max out. It's for Live/PSN, check it out

Oh Bachmann, you so silly
So Glenn Beck recently held a controversial rally, where MLK did his. Now, we know that Fox News likes to make shit up, so it was no surprise to see Michelle Bachmann, someone who's no stranger to Fox News, completely make up a number for the rally's attendance.
She was quoted as saying, "We're not going to let anyone get away with saying there were less than a million here today - because we were witnesses," when in actuality, there was closer to 90,000 in attendance.
It amazes me that people still watch the avalanche of bullshit that is known as Fox News. What amazes me even more is how people still fucking believe it.

Oh man
So the people I live with actually believe that keeping the doors and windows open all day makes the house cooler than leaving them closed and running the air conditioning. Now, having our house be 80-90 degrees isn't what I'm complaining about, it's the plethora of flies that enjoy buzzing around our place.
I, like many people, enjoy wasting time on the internet in my room with a cool drink. Thing is, even with my door closed 95% of the day, flies still seem to get in here. Don't ask how, really. To combat this, I've gotten increasingly good at taking my pillow and smacking them outta the air, into the walls or the ground. The ones that don't immediately die from the blunt force of the impact are then picked up/squished with a couple tissues and thrown away.
I'm like a sniper. I wait for my moment and strike. Now if only snipers in real life used pillows too...

Interesting Prop 19 info
An article on the increasing support for Prop 19:
Quote:
"For the first time, their poll of all American adults has a plurality supporting legalization: 43% think marijuana should be legalized while 42% think it should remain illegal. That is a significant improvement from a similar Rasmussen poll just a little over a year ago, which found 41% supporting legalization and 49% opposed. It is possible that Prop 19, by bringing the debate to the forefront, is starting to noticeably move national opinions by forcing people to take some time to actually think about the issue.

It is possible that Prop 19, by bringing the debate to the forefront, is starting to noticeably move national opinions by forcing people to take some time to actually think about the issue.
The most interesting part of the Rasmussen poll is that a solid majority thinks legalization is a real possibility in the relatively short term.'65% believe it is at least somewhat likely marijuana will be legalized in the United States in the next 10 years. Just 28% do not expect this to happen. Those numbers include 29% who say it is Very Likely pot will be legal in the next 10 years and five percent (5%) who say it is Not At All Likely.' It is important to point out that the subset of American adults who actually vote tends to be older and less supportive of legalization than the general public, so we probably have not yet reached the point where a plurality of the all important “likely voters” supports legalization, but at the current rate that point could be reached soon."

Them Sounders
There's nothing like watching a soccer team go from losers to winners. One of these days I'm gonna have to scrounge up the money to finally go to one of their games, but in the mean time, I'll just enjoy watching them on tv. Viva la Montero!
